I miss you guys so much! I haven't decided what to do moving forward with this blog-- I find myself constantly wanting to share with you guys awesome recipes, work-outs, facts ETC. But-- here's the kicker-- I got a professional blogging job for SEOwhat.com and, I will be maintaining two blogs for them and I'm not sure if I'll have the time to dedicate myself to this part of the Internet. Bummer- I know! <br />
<br />
I feel very passionate about clean eating and living a healthy lifestyle. I'm actually in progress of overhauling my entire families diet-- my 5 year old is definitely the most work. Telling a 5 year old no more candy, cupcakes, Ravioli-- as you can imagine, not the easiest thing. But, it's what is best for her and I'm not going to give in!<br />
<br />
For those of you who have emailed me about Fit Friends-- I am not sure I will continue the program. We had over 150 participants (yay!) and it sounds like you all loved your packages! Unfortunately, the person assigned to me didn't ever send a package to me! So all of that work, and I didn't even get to enjoy the program. It was a <b>big</b> let down! I hope none of you experienced that disappointment! I am very sorry if you did!<br />
<br />
I did also deactivate my personal Facebook page, therefore the Mama's Facebook page also came down. A majority of my followers (300 or so) kept up with the blog that way, so I'm not sure how many of you will even see this post! I do think I'm going to try and come back here periodically-- so I hope you will stop by!<br />
<br />
I also wanted to let you guys know that I've gotten into a size 7 jeans! I haven't been a size 7 since Eva was born! It's a pretty big deal!<br />
<br />

Some of you may have noticed my serious lack of blogging lately.<br />

Some of that had to do with the visit from my mother, some of it had to do with Eva's birthday & Thanksgiving, some of it had to do with working on my NaNoWriMo novel...<br />
<br />
and some of it had to do with me.<br />
<br />
I'm not sure the direction I want this blog to head in anymore-- nor am I sure whether or not the energy & time invested in this project might be better used in other places of my life at the moment.<br />
<br />
I'm going to take a few weeks to figure that out.<br />
<br />

Keep being the best versions of yourself-- eat clean, look for healthy alternatives, eat junk food in moderation, incorporate physical activity into your daily life-- love yourself the best you can.<br />

Mix peanut butter, almond milk and honey together. Add the protein and cocoa powders and mix thoroughly. Next add the rolled oats, peanuts, grapenuts and chia seed-- mix well. Pour mixture into a 9x11 baking dish-- the bars will be about half an inch thick. It worked best for me to use clean hands, moistened with water to push the batter down (it's very sticky!)</div>

We have decided to start over, but there is still a part of me that feels like a failure! Ahh! Welp, that's what happens sometimes, right? And, we *did* both stay active, so that's a positive. Garrett went on a lot more runs than "the norm" and I did yoga every day!<br />

But, it's really important to us to FINISH Insanity and not to cheat our way through it! So, back to square one for us...<br />

I think that's a very important part of making healthy changes in your life-- <b>not giving up</b>. It would be a lot easier for both Garrett and I to say, "<i>Ah-- screw it! We've already gotten behind!</i>" then just not finish. We are not going to let that happen!<br />

I will say that it hasn't hurt my weight loss at all. I'm still sitting steady at 134 pounds-- and that brings my <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.bmi-calculator.net/">BMI</a></span> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://mamasgottabigbelly.blogspot.com/2012/08/first-post-exciting.html">from 26.5</a></span> to 24.51. Which is a *big deal*! Why? Well, I'm finally out of the overweight category for my height! Positive news like this just reinforces my belief that abs start in the kitchen. The biggest change I've made thus far has been in my diet! (Abs start in the kitchen!)<br />

We have now completely integrated to making our own bread! I've been using a very easy whole wheat recipe and jazzing it up a bit with flax seed and also making buns, or cinnamon and raisin bread (pictured above.) It makes our house smell amazing, it is saving us a ton of money-- and we aren't getting half the additives and other garbage that goes along with store bought bread! Yay!<br />

I know I slacked last week on blogging too. I'm disappointed in myself. But-- Garrett and I, after two kids and a lot of time decided to finally tie the knot! I got a little caught up in wedding planning and had a hard time concentrating on anything else for a couple of days!<br />

I did recieve and email this week asking how I "pick" the winner. Well, it's actually quite simple! It wasn't because I didn't like the taste of meat (growing up-- Steak medium rare to medium was always my FAVORITE)-- but it was the treatment of the animals that slowly got to me.<br />

A majority of animals are raised for slaughter, fed an unnatural diet, and are pumped with antibiotics. They live in their own waste. If you are what you eat-- think about what eating an animal like that means for your body!<br />

I beg you to take the time and watch this documentary. It isn't shock factor, gore-- but it's very honest and well made. <br />

I started eating meat again before I realized I was pregnant with Abram. My body was craving it. And-- your body tells you what it needs, so I gave in.<br />
<br />
But, now the pregnancy is over and I'm sorry-- but getting good meat- local, humanely raised, antibiotic free, non-corn fed- is incredibly expensive. <br />
<br />
I plan on going back to vegetarianism in the near future. I've stopped buying meat, minus fish. (And the occasional German Sausage-- I live in the most German town in Minnesota... Brats and Kraut are a staple and going to be very hard to give up!) I sometimes feel guilty, because I cook for the household-- so if Momma isn't eating meat, the rest of the family isn't eating meat. Eva is used to a few non-animal products already (Almond Milk, Daiya, Earth Balance, Boca and Morning Star products)-- but she loves chicken and bacon. I've tried to explain to her what being a vegetarian is/means and she seems interested. But, I'm her Mom and she's almost 5. She wants my approval and ... well, I just don't want to force this on her!<br />
<br />
I just wish I didn't have to make this decision! Why is it so hard to feed animals their natural food? To raise them in a humane environment? To not pump them with chemicals? I don't want my children eating ammonia soaked beef! Or, eating eggs from a chicken who has never stood up in her entire life-- who lays her eggs in a nest filled with her own feces.<br />

Garrett and I attended our friend's wedding- ((Marisarah and Cody)) in our old stomping grounds of Mankato. I cried during their beautiful ceremony (they were married in the church where Eva was baptized and by the same Pastor!) They stumbled over their words with such sincerity-- it was truly a breathtaking moment. The reception was a blast- delicious food and CAKE BALLS! It was the first time I had seen an assortment of cake balls, as opposed to having a wedding cake. I wish I would've snapped a picture for you guys- it looked beautiful! And oh man- it was so easy to just chow down. Two words- carrot cake. <br />
<br />
Marisarah's exceptional taste shined through. The couple was stunning. During their dance- wow! I almost cried again- they added sound clips of each other talking about one another- it was beautiful. On a scale of 1-10: the wedding most definitely gets a ten in my book. Beautiful ceremony, gorgeous bride & groom, tons of originality, delicious food, awesome decorations, great and entertaining DJ-- just a perfect wedding!<br />
<br />
I spent Sunday baking, with family (Garrett's brother PJ, our niece Kaidy Jo and Garrett's Dad Phil) hung out for the afternoon. It was a picture perfect Sunday. (I also managed to squeeze in 3 movies- Casper, The Time Travelers Wife and District 9.) Garrett ran a 5k!<br />
<br />
Fortunately, I weighed myself and the frivolity didn't hurt my body. Still sitting between 136 and 137 pounds.<br />
<br />
Today we started week 3 of INSANITY!<br />
<br />
I'm loving it. I can feel my body getting stronger. But, after taking pictures today- I realized my body looks NO DIFFERENT. That is so damn frustrating!<br />

It's hard not to get discouraged when your stomach is just stretched beyond recognition- slightly resembling a zebra with nude stripes. But, the hardest journey's are the ones with the biggest rewards, right? And, though physically it is hard to see a change-- I can feel it in my energy levels and strength.<br />

Garrett is already showing progress! You can see where his tummy is flattening out and the definition is coming back. I can only imagine how great he is going to look when I post more photos in 2 weeks! Garrett tells me he feels an increase in strength and that he's noticing he has more stamina when he goes for runs.<br />
<br />
So, what are my thoughts thus far on Insanity?<br />
<br />
It is hard. You sweat buckets. You scream at the TV. You want to quit. If you are me- you have to modify certain moves (my upper body strength leaves **much** to be desired!) But, all of the sudden-- you realize the video is done. <br />
<br />
My only issue with the videos is that... they get a bit boring. Not in the sense of working your ass off-- but the moves are becoming repetitive (and we still have 7 weeks left!) I bore easily- especially since this whole "working out thing" is somewhat new to me.<br />
<br />
Overall- the pros without a doubt outweigh the cons and I would recommend this video to anyone! Granulated sugar consumption is a food less food. It makes you fat, is incredibly addicting, increases your risk of obesity and diabetes, and raises your cholesterol.<br />

Yes, that the beloved Splenda (I see right through you and your chemical make up!) That's right- Equal, Sweet-n_Low, NutraSweet- they are <b>chemicals</b> and are not real sugar. They are made of things like <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame">aspartame</a></span> and <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucralose">sucralose</a></span>. These chemicals that are tricking your body into thinking it's getting the sugar it is craving is also causing depression, anxiety, fuzzy vision, obesity, diabetes, cancer, the list goes on and on.<br />

Stay away from them, okay?<br />

So, that brings me to <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevia">Stevia</a></span>. Stevia is 100% *natural*. It comes from the herb <span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;">Stevia Rebaudiana. There are some discrepancies in it's history of usage- some say it's been around with native tribes since the 1800's but there is also some information that dates it further back than that! To make Stevia, they extract the water from its leaves, then there is a clarification and crystallization process to follow.</span></span><br />
<br />
Stevia helps to regulate your digestive track and has no glycemic index (aka- doesn't affect your blood sugar levels). It is also 10x sweeter than sugar, so you hardly need to use any while cooking. I use NuNaturals powdered Stevia, but it is available in raw forms and a liquid form that is very popular.<br />

But- store brand honey (think Walgreens, CVS, etc) is bad news bears. I use honey when making granola bars, drizzled over fruit and added to warm or iced tea. Honey (the good stuff) is full of vitamins and has a low glycemic index.<br />

The muffin's I'm sharing today are Apple and Fig. A few weeks ago, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://mamasgottabigbelly.blogspot.com/2012/09/apple-cinnamon-water.html">I posted about</a></span> the health benefits of apples-- they are high in fiber, help you digest your food and full of vitamins and antioxidants! Yay!<br />

What about figs? <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://www.nutrition-and-you.com/fig-fruit.html"> Figs are full of amazing things for your body</a></span>! This recipe calls for dried figs:<br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 16px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: inherit;"><i>Dried figs are excellent source minerals like <span style="font-weight: bold;">calcium</span>, copper, potassium, manganese, <span style="font-weight: bold;">iron</span>, selenium and zinc. 100 g of dried figs contain 640 mg of potassium, 162 mg of calcium, 2.03 mg of iron and 232 mg of potassium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure. <span style="font-weight: bold;"></span>Copper is required in the production of red blood cells. Iron is required for red blood cell formation as well for cellular oxidation.</i></span></span></blockquote>

Your body should burn when you exercise- that means you are working your body. But listen to signals-- you don't want to over do it. Stay hydrated- drink water before, during and after you workout. Make your have a recovery drink. Take care of yourself!</div>
